ONE VALUABLE THING ABOUT COMMUNITY...

Is the knowledge you gain from others' experiences.

When Sacha was admitted to the NICU this afternoon I knew what to expect. It's not knowledge that I wanted to ever have (much like all the endless details about TTC), but today I was glad I was able to remain on two feet as we wheeled our little guy into perhaps the beeping-est room in the hospital.

It's nothing "serious", in terms of the simple I can never compare what we are going through to the endless realities I have read about from you guys. But I think that I was able to hold it together because I knew what to expect.

It's quite simple, really. Sacha was jaundiced, lost too much of his birth weight, wasn't peeing or pooping.

For the past 11 hours he has been under the lamps, and been having an IV infusion. When we left tonight he was already looking somewhat better and his bili levels had dropped. And he made a couple of pees.

I was afraid it was because of my breastfeeding, but it turns out that all the symptoms are just snowball effects of the jaundice.

It was terribly difficult to leave the hospital tonight with an empty car seat. And now I am sitting here being sad about not being up with my little bundle all night walking the hallway. Hopefully we will have him back where he belongs tomorrow.

So ya. He is going to be ok. We are going to be ok. I just wanted to again thank this community.

I'm glad that it's nothing major, but it would scare the bejeebers out of me too, if it was my own children. And I work in an adult ICU, so the beeps are old hat.

Hope you get him home soon,

J

OMG how did I miss his birth announcement?! I'm a little late, but Congratulations!! He's absolutely beautiful. I love his little serious face in the photo, hee!

I can't believe the jaundice ramped up so quickly. So glad the cure is an easy one. He'll be home before you know it.

Wow, I'd be terrified, regardless of what I knew. I'm SO glad that it's only for the jaundice, and that he seems to be responding well to the treatment so far.

Hugs and the hopes that your baby comes home with you shortly.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Sacha is gorgeous, and I can hardly believe that he is here. Jaundice can be scary and I can only imagine how hard it was to leave without him. I hope that he's home with you very, very soon!

Serious or not, you must be going through hell.

I'm thankful that as far as hospital visits go, this is nothing major but I can imagine how hard it is.

Thinking of you.

my littlest sister started out with Jaundice (she had some pretty funky looking baby pictures!) but look how she turned out...

oh wait, maybe bad example ha ha ha.

I'm glad he just needs a little stint in the "tanning bed." Wow, his first beach vacation, and so young... ;)

He'll be in my prayers that his bili level goes down enough overnight and he gets pink and hydrated enough to head home in the morning. (fyi- did they tell you that BFing is GOOD for jaundiced babies? BF = more poops = gets the bili level down). And NICU nurses love big babies that can get cuddles. He'll have a big head from all the attention by the time he gets home. :)

Ms. C,

I am sooo thrilled for you -- congrats! I can only imagine how stressful it is, though, to have to return home without your little bundle of joy, I'm so sorry.

But I'm relieved it's nothing too serious and that you seem to have a very positive outlook.

I'll stay tuned for more updates and again, congrats! Can't wait for the birth story :-)
